Decorate with Christmas Tree Ornaments

Need some ideas for how to decorate with your homemade Christmas trees?

  • Mix old, new, and homemade on your Christmas tree: Combine a mix of old cherished ornaments, new finds - maybe even from other crafty people and artists, and your own homemade Christmas tree ornaments.

  • This little Christmas tree is a work of art in itself and makes for a perfect decoration on the display cabinet.

  • Take your homemade Christmas trees from the tree branches to the dining table, using them as delightful ornaments on each plate. They will bring a touch of whimsy and warmth to your holiday feast, impressing your guests and making every meal feel like a cherished celebration.

Got Questions about making fabric Christmas trees?

Do I need a sewing machine to make a fabric Christmas tree ornament?

This little Christmas tree can easily be sewn by hand. On the sewing machine, I sew the Christmas tree pieces together with right sides facing each other, and then I turn it right side out so the seams are hidden.

If you're sewing the tree by hand, you can simply stitch it together with wrong sides facing each other using small hand stitches. I love hand-sewn Christmas decorations as they have a perfectly imperfect look that fits well with the nostalgic and cozy atmosphere of Christmas.

What type of fabric can I use for my Christmas tree?

I mostly sew with recycled fabrics and rarely shop at fabric stores. Instead, I often visit thrift shops where I find fabric scraps, tablecloths, cushion covers, and curtains. I also come across nice dresses and shirts that are perfect for small DIY projects like making Christmas and Easter decorations.

If you're sewing Christmas tree ornaments with synthetic or thin fabrics, I recommend ironing interfacing onto the fabric before you start. It makes sewing easier, prevents fraying, and gives the decorations a more solid shape.

How can I decorate my homemade Christmas tree ornament?

I am a sucker for details, and I absolutely adore how handmade Christmas decorations offer infinite possibilities for creativity. This little Christmas tree is no exception. You can embellish it with delicate pine needle embroidery, a charming garland, tiny embroidered flags, ornaments made of beads, stars, and sequins, or any other decorative elements you fancy.
