With this pattern, you can sew your own Christmas bells and decorate them with beads, a small embroidery, or a lovely bow. The bells don't require much fabric, so there's a great opportunity to use up some fabric scraps.

This sewing pattern includes:

  • Print-friendly template
  • Materials list
  • Sewing instructions

No Christmas without jingling bells to get you into the Christmas spirit. I love making my own Christmas ornaments, and it's part of my holiday tradition to create a few new designs each year. These Christmas bells are a classic in my collection. I've kept them pretty simple, using beautiful vintage fabrics and adding a small ribbon bow on some of them. I'm a sucker for details, and if you are too, experiment with adding a personal touch to your bells - a small embroidery or beads in different colors.

Happy crafting!

Got Questions about making fabric Bells?

What fabric for DIY Christmas bell ornaments?

You have complete freedom when it comes to choosing the fabric for your homemade bell ornaments. While sewing with cotton is the simplest choice due to its non-stretchy nature and sturdy nature, don't let that limit you.

If you wish to work with thinner fabrics or synthetic materials, you can easily do so by ironing on some interlining before cutting out the parts. Personally, I use Vlieseline H200.

Do I need a sewing machine to make Christmas bell ornaments?

No, you do not necessarily need a sewing machine to make Christmas bell fabric ornaments. While a sewing machine can speed up the process and make the stitching more uniform, you can also create these ornaments entirely by hand using basic sewing techniques. Hand-sewing the fabric pieces together with a needle and thread is entirely possible and can result in beautiful and charming bell ornaments. It all comes down to personal preference and the tools you have available.

The sewing instructions included with this guide are specifically created for making the bells using a sewing machine, but you can still use the template for handmade bells.

How do you make homemade Christmas bell ornaments?

There are so many great ways of making homemade Christmas bells. You can make them from recycled materials like egg cartons, from paper or shape them out of salt dough or polymer clay. In this sewing pattern you get instructions and a print-friendly template so you can make cozy fabric bell ornaments. Simply download the template and get creative!
